Start tolerating each other or else, warns Rietgat police

“The rise in the common assault cases is a clear indication the community finds it difficult to work together in the domestic front.”

Rietgat police warned communities in their police precinct to learn to tolerate each other during the lockdown period or face the full might of the law.

This comes after the rise of common assault cases reported to the station.

Captain Stephen Maluleka said it has come to the attention of the station there was an upsurge in cases of common assault where people fight each other for things that can be avoided.

“The rise in the common assault cases is a clear indication the community finds it difficult to work together in the domestic front.”

Maluleka said the police are concerned about the moral fibre of the people they serve and protect.

“We therefore encourage our community to do the right thing and avoid being on the wrong side of the law.”

Rietgat police arrested 18 suspects during their weekend operation.

“Criminal offences ranged from possession of drugs, rape, contravention of the disaster management regulations, common assault, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, common robbery and contravention of protection order.”

Maluleka said the station continues to ensure the law is enforced by putting transgressors behind bars in a bid to create a safer environment for citizens.

Station commander Colonel Stephina Nkosi lauded the men and women in blue for working tirelessly in effecting the arrests under the circumstances.

“Your selflessness towards ensuring that our people are and feel safe is appreciated, keep up the great work,” he said.

All arrested suspects will appear before the Soshanguve magistrate’s court in due course.

The Rietgat police urged the community to avoid going to the station for trivial matters that can wait until the lockdown is over.
