Waltloo SPCA worker in hospital after attack
SPCA workers attacked and assaulted, knife and panga found on the premises.
A Tshwane SPCA staff member is currently in hospital. The man and other employees were attacked at the Waltloo branch on Wednesday evening.
The general manager of Tshwane SPCA Waltloo, Dewald Wahlstrand, said their staff member is currently in hospital receiving treatment for his injuries.
“Other staff members are rattled by this unprovoked and unnecessary act of violence,” he said.
Wahlstrand said eight men jumped the fence of the premises and demanded money from the staff.
“Last night I picked up a bayonet knife and this morning a panga. These men had bad intentions.
“The men broke the front door and went to the injured staff member’s room. They hit him on the head and caused a concussion. He is doing well now and is in good spirits. He should be released by tomorrow.”

Wahlstrand emphasised that the safety of their staff remains their utmost priority and they urgently need to put additional security measures in place to protect their staff’s well-being.
A case has been opened with the Silverton police who are currently investigating.
Wahlstrand appealed to the public and essential service companies to assist them with the replacement of the broken windows.
“We would also like it if they could assist us with five security gates,” he said.
He said a security company has assisted with more security at the premises.
