Police in Pretoria have thanked communities for their role in creating safe spaces as they assisted in apprehending two suspects this week.

Spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said “two unlicensed firearms and ammunition were seized by police in Tshwane. Gauteng police will continue with their mission of recovering firearms that are in the wrong hands.”

The police received information about a suspect that was in possession of a firearm in Mamelodi.

“The police proceeded to the mentioned address and apprehended a 34-year-old man after he was found with a pistol, serial number filled off, and five live rounds of ammunition.”

While in a separate incident in the Tshwane metro, police received information about a suspect that was in possession of an unlicensed firearm at a house in Atteridgeville.

Upon investigation, the police found a 37-year-old man with an unlicensed firearm in his possession.

“The firearms will be taken for ballistic tests to establish if they have not been used in crimes,” Masondo.

He said the police in Tshwane would like to thank community members who continued to work with the police in removing illegal firearms currently in circulation.
