Tshwane Covid-19 hotspots

Gauteng Department of Health released local stats of confirmed Covid-19 cases.

In the latest Covid-19 (coronavirus) provincial stats, according to the department’s spokesperson Kwara Kekane, Tshwane had the third-highest number of confirmed cases, tallying 125 on Wednesday, 22 April.

 Lyttelton, Eldoraigne, Waterkloof, Olievenhoutbosch, Rooihuiskraal, Lyttelton, Silverton, Centurion, Brooklyn and  Hatfield had the highest number of cases in region, with 38 cases.

Tshwane’s second hotspot was  Eersterust, Lethabong, Mamelodi, Silverlakes, Garsfontein, Lynnwood, Queenswood, Wilgers, Watloo, Equestria, Mooikloof and Brummeria with 37 cases.

A total of  23 was recorded in Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane, Winterveldt, Soshanguve, Rosslyn, Karenpark, Wonderboom, Akasia, Nina Park, Orchards, Amandasig and Thereza Park.

Meanwhile, Atteridgeville, Laudium, Pretoria CBD, Hercules, Danville, Saulsville, Lotus and  Pretoria West stood at 15.

 Hammanskraal, Temba, Suurman, Dilopye, Stinkwater, Ramotse, New Eersterust, Kameeldrift, Pyramid/Rooiwal, Doornpoort, Kekana Gardens, KekansStad, Marokolong, Randstown and Kanana had one of the lowest reported cases, totalling four.

On a low key, East Lynne, Rayton, Cullinan, Dewagensdrift, Refilwe, Silverton and Onverwacht had one confirmed case.

Ekangala, Sokhulumi, Dark City, Zithobeni, Bronkhorstspruit, Kanana and Rethabiseng followed suit with also one confirmed case.

However, the department of health highlighted that there were six unallocated cases.

The local stats were derived from the provincial Covid-19 stats from Tuesday, 21 April, totalling 1 199 cases, with 781 recoveries and 7 deaths.

“This means that the total number of active cases in the province sits at 411 (recoveries refer to people who previously tested positive for Covid-19 and are now negative),” Kekana said.

The department added that out of a total of 7 103 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with people who tested positive for Covid-19), 2 973 people completed the 14-days monitoring period with no symptoms reported.

  • Johannesburg 712
  • Ekurhuleni 257
  • Tshwane 125
  •  Sedibeng 11
  • West Rand 40
  • Unallocated 54

Total: 1 199 – deaths 7; recoveries 781

On Wednesday, 22 April, South Africa had a total of 3 635 Covid-19 confirmed cases with Gauteng at 1 224 cases.
