Wanted suspect shot during arrest in north

A shootout ensued in which the suspect was wounded and taken to hospital.

The Tshwane flying squad arrested a suspect in Hebron who was wanted in connection with various crimes in the north of Pretoria.

The 36-year-old suspect was injured when a shootout ensued between him and the police.

According to flying squad spokesperson Constable Bontle Rahatji, the suspect has been on the run since April this year.

She said police officers were following up information received about the suspect and eventually managed to arrest him.

“It is alleged that the suspect has been terrorising areas of Akasia, Garankuwa and Soshanguve. He was sought for cases of attempted murder and robberies reported at different stations.”

Rahatji said the suspect was found hiding at a house in Hebron.

“As he came out of the house, he was armed. He was ordered to surrender, which he did not do. A shootout ensued in which the suspect was injured and taken to hospital.”

She said police officers worked hard to ensure the security and safety of the public.

“Any criminal activity reported to the police would be investigated; therefore, criminals can run but will not hide,” said Rahatji.

The suspect was expected to appear in the Soshanguve magistrate’s court soon, facing charges of attempted murder, robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
