Centurion couple robbed while jogging
The couple tells how a group of robbers armed with knives surrounded and robbed them of cellphones and tekkies.

A Centurion couple was robbed by a group of four armed men when they went jogging in the area last week.
On 12 May, Litha Twaku and his wife were jogging down Capensis Street at around 07:15 when they were stopped and approached by a group of armed robbers who demanded their valuables.
The couple had just passed another jogger when the group suddenly approached them.
“They surrounded us and demanded our cellphones,” Twaku said.
Twaku said after handing the robbers their cellphones, they were further forced to take off their tekkies and his sweater and hand it over.
“They had big knives. After we handed over the cellphones and tekkies they walked away.”
Twaku said the robbers also asked for their wedding rings, which was fortunately at home at the time.
“When they approached us, we remained calm and did not resist them. We handed over the items as it can be replaced,” Twaku said.

Afterwards, the jogger that passed the couple a few minutes prior to the robbery rushed to their aid.
The couple went to the Wierdaberg police station to open a case of robbery when they allegedly met with another couple who was also just robbed in Ruimte Street in the same area.
The other couple who was reportedly also robbed in a matter of the minutes described the same perpetrators.
Wierdabrug police released a statement about two weeks ago warning the community to be careful while jogging in the morning.
“Several cases have been opened whereby victims were targeted while exercising in the morning between 06:00 and 09:00. They were robbed of belongings such as cellphones, running shoes, bicycles, clothes and jewellery,” said police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma.
Targeted areas around Centurion include Rooihuiskraal North, Raslouw and Celtisdal.
Last week Monitor Net also urged joggers and cyclists to avoid these hotspots in Centurion after a jogger was robbed of a cellphone and a bicycle was stolen.
Other hotspots where joggers have been robbed in the past two weeks include Capensis, Apiesdoring, Ruimte and Philirene streets.
