AfriForum’s Moot branches helps community

Among other things, the civil rights organisation's Moot and East Moot branches have helped provide food since the start of the national lockdown.

AfriForum’s branches in the Moot have joined hands with other organisations to help people in need in the community.

Among other things, the civil rights organisation’s Moot and East Moot branches have helped provide food since the start of the national lockdown.

The Moot branch, with funding, helped provide 237 families with food and other essential items in collaboration with the Matthew 14 Care project, said spokesperson Carina Bester.

She said donations were needed and people have been able to donate bread, milk, flour, canned food, coffee, tea, sugar, fresh vegetables, beans, soy, soap, toothpaste and toilet paper.

“It is remarkable to see how the community in the Moot stands together to cope with this crisis,” said Sampie Steinberg, AfriForum’s district coordinator for Greater Pretoria.

“AfriForum’s Moot branch management and Matthew 14 Care project are working very hard to distribute food to those in need in the area.”

He said they were grateful for all the donations received thus far and for their structures’ hard work in the Moot.

The East Moot branch, in collaboration with Fonz’s Frozen Foods, launched a project for Solidarity Helping Hand to supplement the organisation’s food supply, which is donated to needy families, said Bester.

She said Elize Berg, a resident, has already bought 40 frozen chickens that were donated to Helping Hand.

“With this project, people are not only supporting Helping Hand, but also a local business that gives back in the community. The East Moot branch uses this crisis to reach out to other organisations and build and strengthen ties in the process,” said Steinberg.

People who wanted to donate food to the Moot branch and the Matthew 14 Care project can contact the following branch management members: Gerhard Hildebrand (chairman) on 082-464-2155, Werner Schultz (treasurer) on 082-267-5240 or Colette Schultz (secretary) on 082-331-8406.
