East toddler dies in tragic accident involving water tanker truck
Police are investigating a culpable homicide case after the truck allegedly reversed over the boy.
Police have confirmed that a one-year-old baby boy was tragically killed after he was run over by a water tanker truck in Lethabong informal settlement, east of Pretoria on Monday.
The boy was run over by the truck while fetching his soccer ball, according to Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo.
“It is alleged that the driver was reversing the truck after filling one of the water tanks in a nearby street when the boy ran towards the rear wheels to fetch his ball.”
“Unfortunately, the boy was struck by the moving truck.”
Mavela said the toddler was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
“Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide and a warning statement was obtained from the driver and had been sent to court.”
