Tshwane metro cops bust suspected ‘professional’ car thieves
The arrests were made after the team responded to a lookout for VW GTI Golf with no number plates.
The Tshwane metro police’s K9 unit arrested three suspected car thieves on Thursday.
The arrests were made after the team responded to a lookout for VW GTI Golf with no number plates, according to metro police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba.
“They spotted the vehicle heading into the direction of Silverton and gave chase,” said Mahamba.
“The suspects tried to flee, but they crashed their vehicle at Creswell and Koedoespoort streets.
“A number of vehicle-theft equipment were found in the suspects’ vehicle.”
Mahamba said the equipment discovered indicated that the suspects were “professional” car thieves.

“They replaced the original computer box of a vehicle with their own and then started the vehicle with a smart key.”
The suspects were charged for possession of car theft equipment and reckless driving.
Police are investigating whether the suspects could be linked to incidents of taxi violence in the province.
Firearms were taken for ballistic tests to establish whether they have been used in the commission of crimes.
In a separate incident, another three people were arrested on the same day in a joint operation by the metro police’s drug unit for contravening lockdown regulations in Mabopane.
