Local farmers are doing their part to help the needy and less-fortunate in Ga-Rankuwa during the pandemic lockdown.
Recently, Botshabelo farmers development from Ga-Rankuwa decided to lend a helping hand to the community.
The development was formed to help and reach out to the families that are struggling during the lockdown.
The development donated 200 food parcels and fruit and vegetables to families.
Founder James Mengwai said they were not only assisting the community with food.
“The aim of the development is to tackle socio-economic challenges, enforce skill training and eradicate the high rate of poverty and unemployment in the society,” he said.
“We wanted to ensure struggling and less-fortunate families did not go to bed with an empty stomach.”
He said the development was made up by a strong and passionate team with a mission of touching lives and bringing about change in the community.

He encouraged families to always stay safe at home, wash their hands and continue following the lockdown regulations.
“Our development delivered the food relief to the community and made sure we adhered to the rules and regulations of lockdown,” he said.
The farmers development consists of 15 farmers from Ga-Rankuwa and North West.
The Botshabelo farmers development was formed in 2019 to encourage farming and infrastructure.

Mengwai said the development would continue serving the community even after the lockdown.
“We strive to support the emerging townships and rural areas with farm inputs and infrastructure, we plan to continue teaching the community to instill the idea of growing their own food in their yards,” said Mengwai.
He said the lockdown was working to their advantage as the team took this time to engage with communities and teach them the importance of farming and infrastructure.
Mengwai concluded that the development aims to see change in Ga-Rankuwa and share the little they have by helping residents and working together with them.
