"They contained Covid-19 handouts, face masks, classroom posters, electronic thermometers, hand sanitisers and hand sanitiser stands," media liaison officer Carina Bester said.
AfriForum branches in the Moot and the west of Pretoria have distributed aid packages to schools in the fight against Covid-19.
This was part of the #AfriForumStaanSaam for schools project, which was launched in collaboration with AfriForum youth. AfriForum’s Moot, Oos-Moot and Wes-Moot branches distributed packages to seven schools in the area.
These contained Covid-19 handouts, face masks, classroom posters, electronic thermometers, hand sanitisers and hand sanitiser stands, media liaison officer Carina Bester said in a press release.
The packages were donated to the following schools: Wonderboom High, Pierneef Primary, Mayville Primary, Wonderboom South Primary, Tuine Primary, Tuine High, and Dirk Postma Reformed School.Chairman of AfriForum?s Moot branch Gerhard Hildebrandt said it was a privilege to be able to help.
“It is a privilege to assist schools at this time, and to make sure that they are prepared to continue the 2020 academic year,” he said.
“Schools have not budgeted for these extra expenses and, therefore, it is important for AfriForum to assist.”

AfriForum’s district co-ordinator for greater Pretoria Sampie Steinberg said the organisation had received many requests from schools.
“That’s why AfriForum’s Moot branches participated in the school project to ensure that learners can return safely to school,” he said.
All the schools are very grateful for the support they have received and it is heartfelt to see how everyone works together to make the best of the situation.
Bester said AfriForum had already distributed more than 40 000 bottles of hand sanitiser, 8 000 posters and 200 thermometers to schools nationwide.
She said AfriForum’s greater Pretoria branches would like to support more schools in the challenging times ahead to ensure that they functioned safely.
“The branches are encouraging communities to get involved in the initiative,” she said.
