Thousands raised for Choc on Jammin in Jammies day

Residents were asked to take a video of themselves in their pajamas, whether they were doing their daily exercise, popping into the mall for groceries, gardening, braaing or just loafing on the couch and post it on social media.

The Vodacom Bulls Babes strutted their stuff on Youth Day to show their support for the Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa (Choc).

The Bulls, in cooperation with Choc, participated in the first-ever “Jammin in your Jammies” challenge on Tuesday, 16 June.

Residents were asked to take a video of themselves in their pajamas, whether they were doing their daily exercise, popping into the mall for groceries, gardening, braaing or just loafing on the couch and post it on social media.

A whopping R45 000 was raised and will go towards supporting children living with cancer.

Favourite Bulls Babes such as Alethea du Toit, Carmen Olympia, Caya Finn, Chané Labuscagne, Cherlyndene Jonck, Clerece van der Westhuizen, Gemma Rose Angileri, Revaska Govender, Sharné Smit, Sjandri Els, Tamsyn Dexter and Tish Leshoeli all jumped for joy in a video they shared on social media.

Ina Schomper of Choc said they are grateful for the Bulls’ amazing ongoing support.

“They went to a lot of trouble to compile the video. It created such a nice vibe,” said Schomper.

On the day, spot prizes were given.

Winners were Motion Dance Studio, Bill and Nellie Brander, the Gobel family, Lynne Corby, Nkuli Boikhutso, Jill Marais, the Montgomery family and Andries du Preez.

Shanil Mangaroo, marketing manager of the Blue Bulls Company, expressed his delight on being able to assist Choc.

“We’ve had a great relationship and partnership with Choc over the last few years,” said Mangaroo.

“We love getting involved in their projects. The concept of Jammie Day was yet another fun and effective idea put together by the team at Choc, and we were really honoured to be part of it. I have no doubt that this will grow from strength to strength over the next few years.

“It’s actually funny that not too many rugby players actually own jammies,” he added with a laugh.

On Youth Day, Bulls player, Ivan van Zyl posted a message of hope encouraging the community to stay positive during this time.

“Keep on chasing your dreams,” said Van Zyl.

Bulls prop Lizo Gqoboka said, “Stay positive, pay attention on what you feed your mind. Stay safe and be kind.”

Choc also has some ideas to get the community involved for Mandela Day on 18 July.

“We want to do an online quiz where members of the community can compete. We will announce provincial winners and finally the ultimate Mandela Day quiz participant,” said Schomper.

She added that requests for food parcels and transport funds have increased enormously.

“Mpumalanga do not have the facilities to care for children living with cancer. People can barely afford taxi fees. We are trying everything we can to come up with ideas to raise funds.

“Shoppers can even go to the mall and buy necessities for R67 and donate it to Choc. We will, however, communicate exactly how it will work.”
