Gauteng Covid-19 cases climb to 49 937

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 49 937 with 14 097 recoveries and 282 deaths on Thursday, according to a statement published by the Department of Health on Friday.

The department said out of 32 012 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 20 482 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and they were de-isolated.

The department said 1 800 people were currently hospitalised in public and private facilities.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

– Johannesburg: 24 244 cases and 8 215 recoveries
– Ekurhuleni: 10 797 cases and 3 128 recoveries
– Tshwane: 7 895  cases and 1 721 recoveries
– Sedibeng: 1 919 cases and 135 recoveries
– West Rand: 3 160  cases and 898 recoveries
