Praise has been showered on a Pretoria teacher who lost her battle against Covid-19 on Saturday.
She passed away after hardly a week of being diagnosed with the virus.
Pretoria School for Cerebral Palsied Learners confirmed in a Facebook post that Mariechen Ebersöhn died at the Pretoria Heart hospital.
“Mrs Ebersöhn was a teacher at the Pretoria school for the past 10 years. She was known for her gentle manner, deep humanity and her big servant heart. She loved and served her learners and colleagues without a thought for herself,” the school said in a statement.
“In the last months of her life, Mrs Ebersöhn secured a large monetary donation for the inter-special department and undertook the enormous task of planning and overseeing some major renovations at the school.
“The transformation of the inter-special department will stand as a tribute to her legacy and to her loving spirit.”
The school sent condolences to her husband, children, grandchildren and to all those who had the privilege of calling her family, teacher or friend.
“Mrs Mariechen Ebersöhn, we, the learners and staff of Pretoria School, thank God for sending you across our paths,” the school 9said.
“We thank you for all the valuable life-lessons that we learnt by your example and for the dedicated teacher that you were known to be. You will be deeply missed.”
Ebersöhn’s brother Willie Spies also confirmed the news of her passing on his Facebook page, thanking everyone for their prayers.
“My sister Mariechen Ebersöhn died in the early hours of Saturday, after she was diagnosed with Covid-19 last Wednesday. She recently turned 56, on the 23rd of May, and was a teacher, mother, wife, grandmother of two, artist, caterer and a caregiver. Above all, she was a child of God who is now in his kingdom. Thank you for the prayers.” Spies wrote.
