Local organisation donates food parcels

More than 400 families in Mamelodi have so far received donated food parcels under that programme.

Mamelodi Men’s Forum continues to serve its beloved community by donating food parcels to disadvantaged families.

The generous donations were made by AFM church in the CBD as part of the church’s feeding scheme programme called Mercy Feeding Scheme.

Reverend Divhani Tshivhula of Mamelodi Men’s Forum, said Mercy Feeding Scheme is one of the forum’s sponsors who made the programme a success since the announcement of the national lockdown.

More than 400 families in Mamelodi have so far received donated food parcels under that programme.

“Mamelodi Men’s Forum is working with the church and other local businesses in Mamelodi assisting needy families making sure they don’t go to sleep on empty stomachs,” said Tshivhula.

The organisation started a poverty alleviation project aimed at assisting families who don’t have food.

Tshivhula said the families were identified by the community and the members of the organisation raised funds by donating money out of their own pockets to buy food.

This week the Mdaka family in Mamelodi East, section SNS received food parcels.

Josephina Mdaka said the generous donation came at the right time and the food parcels would last the family at least a month.

She also encouraged the organisation to continue helping other families.

Tshivhula said their main goal was to bring people from the local community together, give them inspiration and to love each other and motivate them not to give up in life.

Mamelodi Men’s Forum also invites local artists to come on board and join the forum’s proactive programme of arts and culture aimed at raising awareness against gender-based violence (GBV).

“The artists will be required to write and present music, gospel anthems, drama and poems about GBV,” said Tshivhula.

“The aim is to start an annual music concert against GBV after lockdown as a fight against women and children abuse.”

Tshivhula also pleaded with local businessmen to help with donations and in identifying the families in need.

Anyone who wishes to help the organisations with funds can contact Reverend Divhani Tshivhula on 072-982-5357.
