East twin sister fighting for survival in ICU
She took to social media appealing for support and prayers after her twin sister who was diagnosed with Covid-19 and admitted to ICU more than a week ago.
A Pretoria east businesswoman has asked for prayers as her twin sister is battling Covid-19 in hospital.
Hermi Dempsey (36), took to social media appealing for support and prayers after her twin sister, Annette, was diagnosed with Covid-19 and admitted to ICU more than a week ago.
Annette is currently in a stable condition in the ICU in the Pretoria East hospital after she was positively diagnosed with Covid-19 on Saturday, 4 July.
“At first she did not believe she might have contracted the virus.
“On Tuesday 30 June, she started feeling sick and initially thought it was a cold,” Hermi said.
“The following day she felt worse, complaining her body was very sore. She went to the doctor where she eventually underwent a Covid-19 test.
Hermi said by Friday, her sister had trouble breathing.

“We had to phone around to find an open bed for her. Due to Annette’s severe symptoms, she was admitted to hospital before receiving her positive test result a day later,” Hermi said.
“It was difficult when she felt worse and insisted on keeping a distance from us and refused for us to get close to her. She even drove herself to the hospital the day she was admitted.”
Annette has been in the hospital for more than a week, and the worst for Hermi was being unable to contact or visit her sister.
Hermi has asked the community to keep her sister in their prayers as she was fighting for her life.
Annette also has an underlying condition, pulmonary embolism.
“This is especially dangerous because the pulmonary embolism occurs when a blood clot gets lodged in an artery in the lung, blocking blood flow to part of the lung.
“Her heart rate, as well as her oxygen levels, go up and down as her body tries to fight the virus. She is currently stable but our biggest worry is the blood clot which can be life-threatening,” Hermi said.
