A Pretoria east resident is on the way to recovery after the diagnosis of a medical condition that threatened to leave her fighting for her life.
On Wednesday, 15 July, Esthi Labuschagne (27) woke up with an excruciating headache and nausea. She was admitted to Life Groenkloof hospital on Friday, where an MRI scan revealed that she had a blood clot in the brain.
Esthi is the daughter of well-known sport photographer GB Jordaan.
Jordaan said that initially, the family’s fears was she had Covid-19.
“She went for blood tests as we thought that it might be Covid-19. The results came back negative but her iron count was very low.
“The family wishes to thank those who supported us through the terrifying ordeal,” said Jordaan.
“Due to the lockdown, we were not allowed to visit her in hospital and that made it emotionally very tough for us and even more for her.
“For all the many well wishes received from friends and family from all over the world, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” said Jordaan.

According to Dr Henry Kelbrick, it was found during the examination that “extensive cerebral venous sinus thrombosis was present”.
Esthi was discharged on Sunday, after nine days in hospital. For the next four months, twice a week, she will go for occupational, physio and speech therapy.
“I know that my journey to recovery will not be an easy one but I have a will to fight,” said Esthi, adding that she was “taking it one step at a time”.
Her husband Divan said that they were relieved to have her back home.
“She still has headaches and double vision. We are very thankful that she is home safe. We are very proud of her. She is a fighter, ” said Divan.
