Pet pit bulls attack Elarduspark residents

An Elarduspark mother and her five-year-old son sustained serious injuries after they were attacked by their two dogs over the weekend. On Sunday around 17:30, Netcare 911 emergency service responded to a dog attack incident in Barnard St, Elarduspark.
Netcare 911 emergency service spokesperson Shawn Herbst, said the mother and her son had to be rushed to Kalafong hospital after the attack.
“It is alleged that the dogs, two pit bulls, had been fighting with each other when the five-year-old [who was outside as well] ran towards the house.”
“The two dogs then focused their attention on the young child and attacked him. He was bitten, suffering serious trauma,” Herbst said.

“The mother of the child intervened whereupon she was bitten multiple times herself.”
“An older son tried his best to break up the fight and rushed to the kitchen to get a knife. One of the dogs was then stabbed,” he said.
He added that both patients were treated on scene by an emergency care practitioner and once stabilised they were transported to hospital for further treatment.
“The boy is still in a serious condition but the mother is stable.”
