Local organisation donates wheelchair for learner
She was excited to finally have the freedom to move around without being carried.
A grade 11 learner from Mamelodi Far East received a wheelchair recently, thanks to a donation by the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco).
Fortunate Chuene, a learner from Rephafogile secondary school, along with her parents were overjoyed by the generous donation made by the Mamelodi East Sanco branch.
“I am so happy; I don’t know how to thank the people who did this,” said Fortunate.
She was excited to finally have the freedom to move around without being carried.
The learner was accompanied by her father, who was also elated by the donation.
Sanco was represented by Fire Mashao and Lui Mashego, who made the handover.
Rephafogile secondary school principal Wellemina Mahlangu said the Covid-19 pandemic made it difficult for the impaired learner to commence her school work, which required more attention and focus.
“I am grateful for the great work done by the Sanco leadership and can only express gratitude on behalf of the school,” said Mahlangu.

Mashao, a regional Sanco treasurer, was praised for “his good heart”.
Mahlangu further praised Sanco management who found ways of making the wheelchair donation possible under the difficult lockdown conditions.
Mashao, in turn, thanked their members for their support in attending immediately to grievances of the needy and disabled.
“They showed high leadership in identifying the grade 11’s distressed family,” he said.
“I am happy that Fortunate will now be able to attend school without being demoralised.”
