Elderly woman assaulted in Valhalla house robbery

The elderly woman was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.

An elderly woman sustained injuries when she was allegedly assaulted by robbers during a robbery at her Valhalla home on Friday afternoon.

“The 86-year-old woman sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital,” said ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen.

Police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said the four alleged robbers entered the elderly woman’s home at about 13:00.

“Four suspects, three females and a man entered a house on Shirley Street pretending to view it as it’s on sale.”

Huma said the alleged robbers then tied the woman up with shoelaces and assaulted her in her face.

“A cellphone, jewellery, clothes and bottles of wine were taken from the house,” she said.

The elderly woman, after managing to untie herself, was said to have contacted a family member for assistance.

While no arrests were made, Huma said a docket of house robbery was opened for investigation.
