#OperationBasadi sees scores arrested

"Six warnings were issued, while five drug houses and 16 spaza shops were searched."

Several people were arrested when Rietgat police embarked on a massive operation this week.

The police and other enforcement agencies held #OperationBasadi under O kaw Molao operation on Thursday.

Among those arrested was a wanted suspect for armed robbery and illegal possession of a firearm dating back to 2017. He was nabbed after being found in possession of an illegal firearm during the operation.

“Six warnings were issued, while five suspected drug houses and 16 spaza shops were searched. One person was nabbed for dealing in second-hand goods. We stopped 411 vehicles, searched 1 130 persons, screened 262 others and 75 vehicles were tested during the operation,” said Captain Stephen Maluleka.

He said that 11 undocumented nationals were arrested and three other suspects were also held for contravention of the disaster management act regulation 45 (1), while one suspected drug dealer was nabbed.

Maluleka said the police in the Tshwane district were making strides and waging war against criminality in the north corridor.

He said that police in the capital city accumulated R61 200 through Aarto fines on Soutpan Road in Soshanguve.

Maluleka said #OperationBasadi leadership strongly condemned gender-based violence and further advocated for the protection of the LGBTI community against perpetrators.

He said Tshwane district commissioner Major-General Tommy Mthombeni lauded all role-players for eradicating the proliferation of illegal firearms in the capital city.
