North traffic held up in a ‘field of mielies’ as truck overturns
Lanes closed as emergency workers clear up the scene

Emergency personnel and police rushed to a scene in the north of Pretoria after a truck overturned on Thursday afternoon.
The 15-ton truck overturned and lost its cargo of mielies on the corner of Lavender Avenue and Steve Biko Street around 13:55.
“Only trucks of up to 5 tons are prohibited to drive over the pass from Steve Biko towards Sinoville,” Roy Rademeyer for Exec Ops Protection said.
Exec Ops Protection, Sinoville police and the local CPF responded to the overturned vehicle.
“The whole road is covered in mielies where you look.”
Rademeyer said the window of the truck had to be broken to free the driver.
“Fortunately, the driver only sustained minor injuries.”
Rademeyer said traffic was backed up in the area and some lanes were closed to make way to clean up.
The lane over the mountain towards Lavender was still heavily backed up with the left lane going towards Wonderboom temporary closed.
Traffic towards Wonderboom Junction was unaffected.
