Woman found along mountain range was robbed, kidnapped prior to death

The woman was allegedly kidnapped by a group of men when she and her husband stopped by the side of the road.

The previously unidentified woman, whose body was found along the Magalies mountain range in the north of Pretoria at the weekend, has been identified as Martha Mhangi.

A group of men reportedly robbed Mhangi and her husband when they stopped by the side of the road on Saturday while driving to Mabopane, according to Akasia police spokesperson Sergeant Matsobane Mabusela.

The men tied her husband up with shoelaces, while she was kidnapped.

“They were robbed of their cellphones and bank cards,” Mabusela said.

On Sunday, Mhangi’s body was found along the mountain range by police at around 8:00 following a search.

Mhangi, said to be 35, was found with a gunshot to the left side of her head.

An empty cartridge was found near her body.

Mhangi’s killing comes weeks after Comrades marathon champion Nick Bester was attacked, injured and robbed along the same stretch of the mountain.

Bester escaped with a few broken bones and ribs after he was robbed of his phones, bank cards and his personal firearm, which was said to be licensed.
