Freedom Park set to reopen

The reopening of the park, comes in time for the political/liberation heritage virtual dialogue, on Saturday, 19 September, said Madima.

The Freedom Park in the Pretoria CBD is set to reopen for business on Monday, after the national Covid-19-enforced lockdown.

Freedom park spokesperson Naomi Madima said the sports, arts and culture minister Nathi Mthethwa granted the park permission to reopen on condition that all the safety requirements were met.

The reopening of the park, comes in time for the political/liberation heritage virtual dialogue, on Saturday, 19 September, said Madima.

She said the event was a collaboration with the University of Johannesburg, Soweto TV, Institute of Foreign Affairs, Department of Sports Arts and Culture and Freedom Park.

Diplomatic representatives from Russia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Angola, Botswana, Zambia and the United Kingdom were expected to attend.

“The dialogue session will be held to reflect on the role played by foreign countries in the liberation struggle of South Africa.”

Freedom Park is celebrating 20 years since its inception, she said.

She said on National Heritage Day (24 September) entry will be free.

Recently, the head of public participation at Freedom Park Modjadji Makoela said the facility had been looking at bringing in new activities to better the park’s experience.
