Police are investigating a murder case after a man reportedly shot and killed his lover before turning the gun himself at a residential complex in The Orchards, north of Pretoria, on Tuesday.
“The incident took place yesterday, in The Orchards within a complex,” police spokesperson Constable Lindiwe Mdluli said.
“Police were alerted to the shooting and responded swiftly. Upon arrival they discovered that the female was shot in her upper body and the boyfriend was alleged to have also shot himself in the upper body as well.”

Mdluli said emergency services were contacted and certified the woman dead at the scene.
“They transported the boyfriend to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on arrival,” she said.
Mdluli said Akasia police were concerned over the reported increase in gender-based violence and femicide despite their efforts to raise awareness of the scourge in the precinct.
Meanwhile, the station’s operational advisor Brigadier Samuel Thine encouraged the community to continue working together with the police and the CPF to prioritise gender-based violence cases by reporting them.
