WARNING: Old robbery trick making a come back

This comes after a suspected attempted robbery in Sussex street Lynnwood on Sunday.

Residents are being warned against an old robbery trick that is making a comeback in the east of Pretoria.

This comes after a suspected attempted robbery in Lynnwood on Sussex Street on Sunday.

“Two women followed another woman on foot then dropped fake R50 notes to the amount of R8 000,” said community leader Siobhan Muller.

“They then asked the lady if it was her money while a male in silver Toyota Corolla followed close behind. They told the lady the cash should be divided but The Village Road was too busy, suggesting they move to a quieter street.”

Muller said the victim, sensing something was wrong, gave them the money and walked towards a security vehicle.

“The two ladies then jumped into the silver Toyota and sped off.

“Please be very vigilant when walking alone.”

Police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said this was often a technique criminals used to lure their victims into withdrawing money from ATMs after which they rob them.

Weilbach said recently no such case had been reported, however, police were aware of the said incident.

“In this incident the target was vigilant and did not fall victim to a possible crime,” she said.
