East resident in hospital as shots fired in house robbery

"His wife and child heard the gunshots and managed to escape.”

A 46-year-old man was shot and wounded during a house robbery in Bronkhorstspruit in the early hours of Monday.

The robbery happened at 03:00 in Roos Street, Riamar Park, according to Bronkhorstspruit police spokesperson Constable Munyadziwa Ramovha.

“It is believed three men disabled the electric fence, jumped over it into the yard and then broke the main door to gain entrance into the house,” she said.

Ramovha said the homeowner woke up from the noise and decided to investigate.

“When he was in the corridor, he heard two gunshots, one of which hit him in the left foot and the other struck a nearby wall. His wife and child heard the gunshots and managed to escape.”

The owner of the home was taken to the hospital.

Ramovha said the men stole a plasma TV and a sound system.

“The police are investigating a case of house robbery.”

She appealed to anyone who might have information that may help in the investigation to contact the nearest police station or the Bronkhorstspruit police station at 013-932-9222 or 013- 932-9250.
