East police warn tavern owners
Alcohol worth around R30 000 was confiscated to be destroyed.
Boschkop police have issued a stern warning to tavern owners operating within their police precinct.
Over the weekend, a popular tavern in Lethabong informal settlement was forced to close down after police discovered it was operating without a licence.
“This problematic tavern was selling liquor without a valid liquor licence. It was also found that the place was operating 24 hours and did not comply with the disaster management act,” said Boschkop police spokesperson Sergeant Yeroboam Mbatsane.

“Neighbours lodged a complaint that schoolchildren can’t rest or sleep due to the loud music played.”
Mbatsane said police closed the place down and fined the 40-year-old tavern owner.
“Alcohol worth around R30 000 was confiscated to be destroyed,” he said.
He said more visits would be conducted to ensure that all taverns and shebeens operate within the law.
