Tshwane mayor picks ‘’strongest team’’ to revive metro
On Thursday, newly-elected Tshwane mayor Randall Williams announced members of his mayoral committee.

Newly-elected Tshwane mayor Randall Williams announced the members of his mayoral committee during a press conference on Thursday morning.
Williams described the ten mayoral committee members, who would provide oversight on the metro’s key departments, as the ‘’strongest team possible’’.
“I want to congratulate all those who have been appointed and accepted their positions,’’ he said.
“I am eager for us to begin the work of fixing this city.”

Williams said the committee would assist in the governance of the municipal administration.
He said among many other responsibilities, they have to ensure efficient, economic and effective use of municipal resources.

The new mayoral committee members are:
– Housing and Settlements Department: Mpho Mahlepe-Zimu (council member since 2012)
– Corporate and Shared Services: Sylvester Phokoje (advocate practicing in Human Resources)
– Social Development: Thabisile Vilakazi (councillor since 2016 and served in social services)
– Community Safety: Karen Meyer (first elected in 2000 and has served over the past 20 years and has served as the MMC)
– Health Department: Sakkie du Plooy (VF+) (former SANDF chaplain who served as health MMC in 2016)
– Finance Department: Mare-Lise Fourie (returns as finance MMC after serving as MMC in 2016)
– Utilities and Regional Operations Centre: Phillip Nel (professional engineer with over 40 years of experience)
– Roads and Transport: Dikeledi Selowa (youth activist with educational qualifications in relation to the sector)
– Agriculture and Environmental Management Department: Danna Wannenburg (has served in council since early 2000s)
– Economic Development and City Planning: Bruce Lee (MBA and Political Science and leads businesses)
