Help needed after north animal shelter floods
Wollies animal shelter asks for the public's help after their kennels were flooded earlier this week.
The Wollies animal shelter in the north of Pretoria said it urgently needed the public’s help after it was flooded during heavy rains earlier this week.
“We need donations, but also urgently need building materials, particularly sink sheeting and poles,” shelter found Cilla Trexler said in a message posted on social media on Tuesday.
“Wollies is underwater,” the message read.
“We desperately need your help… with more rain in the forecast, we need help – from volunteers to blankets and corrugated roofing, urgently.”
Trexler said the building materials would go a long way towards building more permanent structures over their kennels in the event of more heavy rains or flooding.
“We are trying our utmost to put wendy houses in the kennels which were flooded even though we are currently using igloos,” she said.
Several local residents and businesses have since rallied behind the animal shelter to assist with a variety of donations for their animals.
In posts shared on social media, blankets, meat and some building materials were donated to the shelter since the message.
