Motorist attacked in Waterkloof Ridge amid taxi protest

A motorist was attacked allegedly by protesting taxi drivers in Waterkloof Ridge on Wednesday morning.
Petrie Vogel was driving in the area after dropping her child off at Hoërskool Menlopark for an exam when taxi drivers, who had blocked Eridanus Road near the intersection of Rigel Avenue, allegedly threatened her, jumped on her car and tried to get into the vehicle.
The National Press Club, for which Vogel works, has condemned the “unprovoked attack”.
“She recorded a man, identified by the local community as a taxi marshal in the city, smashing her windscreen with a truncheon as she sat trapped in her car,” the national press club said in a statement.
“She said she was not the only parent to be attacked, as news on their school social media groups indicate others were also victims of taxi violence this morning.”
Petrie sustained minor injuries and has opened a case at the Brooklyn police station.
“This type of unprovoked attack on ordinary citizens during a protest is unacceptable. We urge the police to take steps to identify and arrest the perpetrators.”
