R30k liquor confiscated, fines issued in Mams East
‘The surprise operation was a success and R7 500 fines were also issued for those found selling liquor without a licence.’
A total of five illegal liquor outlets were closed down and liquor worth R30 000 was confiscated in Mamelodi East on Wednesday.
This came after the Mamelodi East police, together with members of other police stations around Tshwane district, held a “high- density” operation around various places in the area.
Police spokesperson Constable Lethabo Mashiloane said the surprise operation was a success and fines totalling R7 500 were also issued for those found selling liquor without a licence.
“We received several complaints from local residents about illegal taverns operating until late and also about loud music,” said Mashiloane.

The police officers and other law enforcement agencies hit the ground to ensure all illegal liquor outlets were closed down.
“We left no stone unturned; the operation was also focusing on stop-and-search, liquor operations and high visibility around hotspots identified in Mamelodi east,” said Mashiloane.
“High visibility made a huge impact by derailing criminals and ensuring the safety of the public, the community appreciated this effort by police in the fight against crime,” he said.
“Police will continue to work around the clock to ensure that the community is safe at all times.”
He said the operation would continue until the precinct was a crime-free zone.
Mashiloane said he was pleased with the result of the operation, but added it was important to sustain the operation.

“Law enforcement agencies will continue targeting all illegal liquor outlets who don’t comply.
“Illegal traders must watch out because we are coming for them.”
Police further advised members of the community about the safety when going to drinking places.
Mashiloane concluded that liquor confiscated during the operation will “go down the drain”.
Police also advised the public to continue working with the police and report any suspicious looking person to the police station by dialling 08600-10111.
