Silverton police still searching for family of man found dead in sewage drain

The man was found on Thursday, 18 March, and is believed to be between the ages of 25-30.

Silverton police have appealed to families with missing loved ones to report to the station to help identify the body of a man found in Silvertondale, two weeks ago.

The African man, believed to be between the ages of 25-30, was discovered in a sewage drain on Rustic Street by members of the public.

Silverton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Isaac Mculu said it was important for the police to find the family as it could also assist in the investigation of events that led to his death.

“We are calling on people with missing loved ones to contact the police station for possible identification of a body,” he said.

“His identity is still unknown.”

According to Mculu, the man was wearing a blue and red T-shirt with “Manhattan” written on it.

At the time the man was found, the police reported that he could have died two weeks prior.

Mculu said there was a family that visited the station on Saturday looking for a missing man.

“The family, however, did not open a missing person case and we do not have their contact details. The family gave the desk officer the description of the man and when their description was brought to my attention it matched that of the deceased man. ”

“We also wish to get the contact details of that family.”

The public can also contact Silverton police station on 012-845-4000.
