Three suspects arrested during police operation

“Members were strategically placed and were given credible verified intelligence, as a result of the pre-planning and operational executions, the team were able to identify a suspect vehicle.”

Three suspects were arrested on Wednesday after police discovered that they were in possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition, as well as house breaking implements.

Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said the arrests were made at around 12:45.

“The officers were busy with an intelligence-driven operation regarding a spike in housebreaking around the Zwartkop and the Highveld area.”

He said the team was able to stop the silver Kia Rio on the N1 North, just after the Botha Road on-ramp.

“When the officers approached the suspects, it was discovered that they were in possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition. The officers also found house breaking implements.

Three suspects will appear in the magistrate court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of house breaking implements, contravention of the road traffic act and fraud due to false number plates. Photo: supplied.

“The vehicle was travelling with false registration plates, and it is further suspected that the same suspects are responsible for an attempted break-in at the Zwartkop area on the same day.”

Miller said the three suspects will appear in the magistrate’s court within 48 hours on charges of possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition, possession of housebreaking implements, contravention of the road traffic act and fraud due to false number plates.

“The management of Lyttelton police would like to assure the community of our commitment to fighting crime in our policing area.”
