Another chase and shootout in Montana, one caught

Shots were fired at metro police and security services in yet another high speed chase in Montana.

There was an exchange of gunfire during a botched hijacking that ended in a police chase in Montana on Tuesday night.

According to police, four suspects in a silver Audi allegedly hijacked a Toyota Hilux at a guest house in Molopo Avenue in Sinoville, around 22:00. The vehicle, however, stalled and the robbers tried to hotfoot it.

Warrant Officer Riaan Kruger of Sinoville police said metro police, CPF and security services responded and chased after the suspects and a shootout ensued.

“Two of the fleeing robbers were picked up by the Audi, but the third man ran off in another direction and was later caught.”

A video of the chase and shooting was captured by a resident in the area.

“We live in the Wild West here. It was complete chaos,” said local resident Kalie Roux

Manie Visser of Prosec CITR said one of their response vehicles was caught in the gun fire.

“Several shots were fired at our response officer, and some of the bullets hit his vehicle,” said Visser.

“Luckily our response officer got out alive and unharmed.”

Visser said Prosec CITR assisted the metro police to chase the Audi all the way to Soshanguve.

“Unfortunately, the suspects’ vehicle disappeared in the Soshanguve area.”

This is the second time in little more than a week that security and police were involved in a shootout with robbers.

Last week Monday, Prosec CITR had also aided in a police chase after suspects robbed a delivery van in the Montana, Sinoville area.

Rekord previously reported on how a Prosec CITR response officer had blocked off the road for robbers fleeing from police in Sefako Makgatho (Zambezi) Drive.

The security company’s response units had, amidst a shooting between cops and robbers, helped in the arrest of three suspects.

“We are incredibly proud of our team and thankful for the police, metro and CPFs that work with us and the community to bring criminals to book,” said Visser.

Kruger said the suspects may be linked to two other hijackings in the Sinoville police precinct.
