294 nabbed, drugs discovered in major police operation
“The reason why we chose Eersterust and Silverton is that we are reporting a lot of hijackings in these two areas."
The police together with various other law enforcement agencies held yet another O Kae Molao operation in Eersterust and Silverton.
Under the leadership of the Tshwane district commissioner Major-General Hilda Mohajane, law enforcement arrested 294 suspects on Wednesday evening.
The operation continued throughout the night and had a few roadblocks in both Eersterust and Silverton.
“In a roadblock held just this morning, we issued more than 10 tickets for non-compliance of the road traffic act,” said Mohajane on Thursday morning.

Out of the 294 suspects arrested, Mohajane reported that 64 of the individuals were arrested for cases of domestic violence.
She said domestic violence was a top priority to tackle in the area.
Mohajane reported that car hijackings and drug abuse were also problems in the area.
“Of the two houses raided this morning, we were successful in uncovering drugs in both.

“The reason why we chose Eersterust and Silverton is that we are reporting a lot of hijackings in these two areas. In Eersterust there is now a new trend of hijacking Uber drivers,” said Mohajane.
Police said a meeting was held with Uber drivers urging them to be more alert when travelling in and out of the area. They also urged users to be considerate when requesting rides in the area.

Mohajane said police were trying to put an end to these hijackings as e-hailing was an important service in the community.
In a roadblock held in Eersterust in the early hours of the morning, police issued a total of 94 tickets to the value of R46 000 and 168 vehicles and about 138 people were searched.

“We are looking at compliance in terms of road traffic to ensure that our drivers and our passengers are safe on the road. These tickets speak volumes,”
Mohajane said she was happy with the outcome of the operations so far and they were hoping to close down on more criminal operations throughout the day.
