East law operation nets four ‘drug dealers’
“We managed to uncover drugs such as crystal meth, marijuana, CAT, and crack cocaine during the raids."
Four alleged drug dealers were arrested in Eersterust and Silverton during an O Kae Molao operation held on Thursday.
“The results of this well-planned and executed operation became evident as four alleged drug dealers were busted within minutes of each other in both Eersterust and Silverton policing precincts
Eersterust police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo said: “We managed to uncover drugs such as crystal meth, marijuana, CAT, and crack cocaine during the raids. The drugs tallied way over R10 000 combined.”

The operation included various members of law enforcement such as the Tshwane metro police and officials from the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).
Police also arrested 24 undocumented people during the operation.
“The DHA is specifically here with us today, to assist in cases of undocumented people. They are here to fill out the necessary documents needed if we are to make any arrests.
“In the case where an undocumented person has committed a serious crime, bail is non-negotiable. Home affairs comes in because this person has committed a serious crime and they are illegal in the country. Home affairs will also take over while the case is still in court,” said Mohajane.

A total of 472 vehicles and more than 700 people were searched during the roadblocks held in both areas. The TMPD also issued a total of 173 traffic tickets to motorists valued at R89 500.
“Our focus is on compliance in terms of the disaster management act because we are still in lockdown. We are also concentrating on compliance in terms of the road traffic act and looking at compliance in terms of second-hand goods as well as shops and businesses that we are having,” said Mohajane.

Police arrested one suspect for possession of an illegal firearm and closed down an illegal shebeen in Eersterust. The owner was issued with an R1 500 fine and all the liquor was confiscated.
Mohajane applauded her team’s work and labelled the operation a success in enforcing the law during the operation.
