West assailants on the run following an ‘execution’

During the shooting, a stray bullet penetrated through the classroom window and hit a learner in her back.

Police are looking for three armed robbers who shot and killed a man outside a Lotus Gardens school last week.

During the shooting, a stray bullet penetrated through the classroom window and hit a learner in her back.

According to Pretoria West police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma, the trio was travelling in a silver Toyota Yaris when they approached the deceased.

“When he saw the car, he started running and the suspects gave chase. When he was approaching corner Chris Hani and Tshweu streets outside a local school, the deceased fell down and was shot seven times,” Vuma said.

“He was shot twice in the head and five times in his right arm.”

Twenty-five empty cartridges were found on the scene.

A case docket of murder and attempted murder was opened.

The Fusion secondary school learner hit by a bullet was taken to Kalafong hospital.

Gauteng education spokesperson Steve Mabona earlier said the department was saddened by the incident.

“We can also confirm that the police are currently investigating circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.

“We strongly condemn senseless acts of violence which threaten the safety of our learners in and around our schooling environment which compromises their education,” he said.

The department has dispatched officials from the psycho-social unit to render counselling services to the school and the wounded learner’s family.
