Over 200 arrested during weekend operations

Suspects, aged between 21 and 56, were arrested on various charges.

Joint police operations led to over 200 arrests within the Tshwane district at the weekend.

These operations comprised members from various law enforcement, SAPS detectives, SAPS Tshwane DOCC, crime intelligence, SAPS crime prevention, home affairs, Tshwane metro police, EMS, Prasa, and Gauteng traffic police.

Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said officers focused mostly on hotspot areas such as taxi ranks and malls.

“During a high-density operation focused in Rietgat and Soshanguve, six liquor outlets were shut down and an unlicensed firearm was recovered,” she said.

During one of the operations in the north of Tshwane, the acting district commissioner Brigadier Matji stressed the importance of upholding the disaster management act regulations with regard to non-adherence for not wearing masks and selling alcohol outside of curfew hours.

He thanked all law enforcement officers who displayed enthusiasm during the multi-disciplinary operations this week.

Suspects, aged between 21 and 56, were arrested on various charges.

These included attempted murder, burglary, carjacking, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, robbery, possession of drugs, possession of stolen properties, possession of dagga, driving under the influence of liquor, drinking alcohol in public and street gambling.

Arrested suspects were due to appear in various courts in Tshwane.
