Police warn liquor traders to be wary of criminals on level 4

“We had a rise in business burglaries during lockdown last year as criminals took advantage of the situation by breaking into bottle stores, taverns and pubs to steal alcohol.”

Rietgat police have warned liquor traders in the area to be extra careful during the current lockdown level 4.

“We had a rise in business burglaries during lockdown last year as criminals took advantage of the situation by breaking into bottle stores, taverns and pubs to steal alcohol,” said police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka.

“Therefore it is incumbent on both the traders and the police to work hand-in-hand to secure business premises and particularly the liquor.”

“As the station, we would like to warn and advise liquor traders to check on their business sites and, if possible, strengthen their security to avoid a repeat of the previous level 4.

“We are also going to ensure our patrol vans are more visible than before, especially near liquor establishments, to make sure business burglaries do not happen.”

He said the station will also be patrolling these entertainment venues to prevent illicit trading of alcohol.

Anyone who witnesses any criminal activity in their surroundings or neighbourhood should contact the police station on 012 432 7806.
