Tshwane mayor tests positive for Covid-19

On 1 July, Tshwane recorded 3 483 new Covid-19 cases bringing the metro’s total number of positive cases to 180 197.

Tshwane mayor Randall Williams has tested positive for Covid-19, the metro reported on Friday afternoon.

According to acting chief of staff in the mayor’s office, Jordan Griffiths, Williams was feeling unwell at the start of this week, and had been working remotely and managing all engagements with stakeholders online.

“He subsequently decided to get a Covid-19 test which has come back positive,” Griffiths said.

“The executive mayor will continue to isolate and work remotely until his health improves.”

On 1 July, Tshwane recorded 3 483 new Covid-19 cases bringing the metro’s total number of positive cases to 180 197.

A month ago, Williams was among those over the age of 60 who got vaccinated for the virus at one of the facilities in Tshwane.

Griffiths urged residents to continue to adhere to the relevant Covid-19 protocols and guidelines and stay safe.
