TV reality show star remembered
Riaan Khumalo Breedt who along with his partner Simphiwe featured on popular reality show Our Perfect Wedding has died.
Pretoria’s TV reality show star, Riaan Khumalo Breedt (46) has died.
Breedt came to be known by many when he and his partner Simphiwe were featured on the popular TV reality show, Our Perfect Wedding (2018).
He died on Sunday in New Castle, KwaZulu-Natal where he had been hospitalised for four weeks after falling ill.

The pair’s unique love story reached thousands of viewers who watched them tie the knot.
They were not just any couple, they were an interracial, gay couple from completely different backgrounds.
“Riaan and I were complicated in the most complex manner. We were not the norm in every way,” said his partner Simphiwe.

“We were gay, interracial and I am a traditional healer. This meant that we faced a lot of prejudices even in these modern times.
“The church and society were also judgmental. Our love made us strong though and some people realised that what we had was unbreakable.”
Breedt lived and worked in Queenswood as a culinary professional.
Simphiwe described Breedt as a lover of life who always loved living outside of his comfort zone.
“He was true to himself and lived his truth. He was kind and loved all people.

“Our wedding day has to be the fondest memory. A wedding signifies so much. It is a beginning of hope, a journey of love, a bright future. It is a beginning of a lifetime. You don’t expect it to end so soon.”
Breedt was laid to rest on Thursday in his home province of KwaZulu-Natal.
In a heartfelt message to his partner, Simphiwe wrote:
Riaan my love,
This journey has proved once more that life is not ours.
We had many hopes and dreams for our future, but once again the universes’ plans prevailed. I can complain about how unfair it is but I realise that I was blessed to share my life with you, although it seemed very short.
Life gifted me with you when I least expected it. You reminded me that magic still exists because what is true love without magic. Love never dies.
When people pass it turns into pain because we do not know where to take the love we felt for them. Although it hurts, I know that one day I will speak of you and smile instead of cry.
Thank you for choosing me and never trying to change me. Thank you for engraving and infusing yourself into my life, crazy as it was.
I know it was a very different world from where you come from. I guess that is why you were so special because you could adjust and tap into any world and be. I love you. I will love you tomorrow and for eternity.
Until we meet again
