Group of five women raped in Hammanskraal – police

"They also robbed them their belongings including clothes and left them naked."

Temba police are investigating after a group of five women were allegedly raped and robbed near a river in Bosplaas West in the early hours of Saturday.

“The women were on their way back from a tavern in Ramaphosa informal settlement when they were stopped by a group of six men in a car,” said police spokesperson Herman Moremi.

The men then ordered the women into the car at gunpoint.

“They then drove them to a field in Bosplaas next to Tshwane river where four of the men raped the women.

“Two of the suspects sat in the car drinking. They also robbed the women of all their belongings, including all their clothes.”

Moremi said the women were found by a passerby and taken to the police station.

“The commander on duty arranged blankets from the cells for them. The family violence, child protection and sexual offence unit member on standby attended to the incident.

“The victims were taken to a hospital. A case docket for rape and robbery was opened.

“The suspects remain unknown and the vehicle used was not identifiable,” Moremi said.
