East resort takes measures following suspected arson

Six cars were damaged when they caught fire at the Cedar Junction family resort.

A Pretoria east resort has beefed up its disaster management plan following a fire that broke out on Friday damaging six cars.

The cars caught fire while people were relaxing inside the Cedar Junction family resort.

According to Tshwane emergency services, five cars burnt out completely and one was extinguished by the people who were at the resort.

In a statement on their Facebook post, the Cedar Junction family resort management described the incident as a suspected arson case.

They said during the fire, their disaster management plan was put in place which included the closing of pools and slides and the deployment of staff members to assist in extinguishing the fire.

“Forty-eight fully functional extinguishers were used to help extinguish the fire,” the statement read.

“With the help of our valued patrons, we were able to assist in moving as many cars as possible without endangering the safety of people and more cars.”

The resort said the incident taught them to improve their disaster management plan, which included the involvement of a fire inspector specialist and an increase in fire extinguishers, especially in the parking area.

“We understand that some of our patrons’ fun day was spoiled. So if you were here and you still have your tickets, you are welcome to contact us to assist with visiting the park again.”

Bocshkop police said no case was opened.
