Couple kidnapped, forced to withdraw cash

Three armed men abducted a Pretoria West couple from their Kirkney home this week and took them to an ATM, where they were forced to withdraw R9 400 in cash.

They then dropped the man and woman off at Fred Messenger Avenue, also in Pretoria West.

The attack happened on the evening of Tuesday, September 21, according to Hercules police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango.

“The two victims were inside their home when the suspects gained access to the home and attacked them at around 19:00.

“The robbers then forced them into their vehicle and took them to an unknown area where they demanded the man withdraw the money from an ATM.

Two cellphones were also taken.”

Msimango said, fortunately, the victims were not injured.

“No shots were fired and the victims were unharmed, but they are still traumatised after what had happened.”

The three armed suspects, driving a white Audi A3, were still at large.

Police said theft from and of motor vehicles was a concern in the area, especially in Daspoort, Pretoria Gardens, Booysens, Claremont, Andeon and Kameeldrift West.

“It is the last quarter of the year and the festive holidays are approaching,” said Msimango.

“Criminals are targeting every vulnerable space and opportunity to crime. Residents must be on a high alert and positively work with the CPFs in their respective sectors.

“We are also intensifying stop-and-searches.”

He appealed to the community to assist the police with any information about the suspects and can call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
