Locals celebrate Heritage Day
The aim of celebrating Heritage Day was to embrace different cultures and diversity and learn more about each other.

Residents of Ward 67 came out in their numbers dressed up in their traditional clothing to celebrate Heritage Day.
The event was held at the famous Gaza square in Mamelodi West, section B3.
“We have invited the whole community of section B3, including neighbouring communities, to come dressed in traditional clothing and we also cooked traditional food,” said Lucas Mabunda, one of the organisers.
The day was well-spent as it also gave upcoming entrepreneurs a chance to showcase their products and services.
The residents came dressed in Tsonga, Zulu, Sepedi and Ndebele outfits.
Mabunda said Heritage Day was a “reminder”.

“We also wanted to share the history of our culture with our children so that they can get to know their roots.”
Residents also had an opportunity to take part in various sports activities such as soccer, netball and tennis.
To wrap it all up, there was traditional music and anyone had the chance to perform on stage.
Organiser Patrick Mboweni said they had stalls for the market day that allowed locals to buy locally-produced products ranging from cakes, homemade sauces, printed shirts and traditional food.
“Our children are the future leaders of this country. They should know where they come from and teach the next generation about their culture,” said Mboweni.
The event was an all-round success and kicked off by explaining the importance of celebrating Heritage Day.
“The main aim was to embrace diversity and learn more about each other,” said Mboweni.
Mboweni further said “everyone” participated in the event, including senior citizens who also dressed up in traditional clothing.
He said this was not a once-off event.
“We are planning to host the event annually.”
He thanked everyone for participating and also for adhering to Covid rules and regulations.
