The event was held at Solomon Mahlangu square in Mamelodi West to bring back drum majorettes in the community.
Event organisers, Angel Tshabalala from Talented Angel Team majorettes and Nhlanhla Peete from What What media, said the event was organised for a good cause and this year’s theme was the Drill Express where teams had the opportunity to show their drill skills.
Teams that participated were Blue Train young foundation, Flying Birds majorettes, Inkanyezi drum majorettes, JM majorettes and Light majorettes.
“The event was also a charity event where more than 200 sanitary pads were collected from companies like GenZet and school shoes from What What Media,” said Tshabalala.
The local team aims to help its performers to develop by embracing the therapeutic benefits of drum majorettes and all dance, building self-esteem, confidence and creating opportunities for the wealth of talent.
The event was also about creating job opportunities and promote skills development.
“The money raised at the event helped to get us uniforms, drum set and all material things we needed for the team.
“We all come from different backgrounds and some of the learners cannot pay for the uniform,” said Tshabalala.
There will be more drum majorettes events and the dates will soon be announced.
