East NGO gets much needed donations

The organisation, that houses 160 adults with disabilities and special needs, was given a medical staff house as part of a donation.

A Pretoria East non-profit organisation received a much needed generous donation on Tuesday.

The Kungwini welfare organisation, which houses 160 adults with severe and profound disabilities, including those who depended on oxygen, was given a newly built medical staff house, a cold room to store fruits and vegetables, as well as a standby generator.

Handing over these donations, Tshwane MMC for economic development Bruce Lee said the metro was confident that Zwavelpoort residents and the organisation would ensure they protected this social upliftment investment.

He said the project also assisted in boosting employment opportunities.

“Over 60 short-term job opportunities were created during the construction, with the city assisting to select the contractors ensuring that the project benefits the local economy,” he said.

“The project started in June 2019 and was completed in May 2021.”

The facility constructed by Raumix Mining Company cost about R1,5-million.

Lee said the metro would continue to facilitate similar partnerships with other mining companies, government departments and local communities to ensure that local communities benefit.

“The city would like to call on other mining companies and development-oriented organisations to come forward to establish public-private partnerships that will benefit and uplift communities in need,” he said.

The partnership also included the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy.
