Armed robbery suspect still on the loose
Three of the suspect’s accomplices were arrested after the vehicle they were travelling in was spotted as police conducted patrols shortly after the armed robbery.
A fourth person linked to an armed robbery at a business in the Doornpoort area last week has yet to be arrested, the police said on Monday.
“No further arrests have been made, but investigations are continuing,” said Sinoville police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk.
This was after three of the alleged robber’s accomplices were arrested after the vehicle they were travelling in was spotted as police held patrols shortly after the armed robbery.
The man evaded arrest on foot with an undisclosed amount of money while his accomplices were arrested after the vehicle they were travelling in was forced to stop by police.
The four suspects had followed an employee to the business premises from a bank in a shopping complex in the Montana area where he had withdrawn an undisclosed amount of money on Wednesday, according to provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo.
“When he arrived at his workplace, the men armed with pistols in a Volkswagen Caravelle stopped behind him and demanded the cash,” he said.
He handed over the money to the robbers who fled the scene.
“The victim raised alarm and the Sinoville CPF was notified and details of the vehicle and its occupants were dispatched on the CPF’s radios,” Masondo said.
The vehicle was then spotted by police.
“Three firearms were discovered hidden in the vehicle’s roof,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sinoville police station commander Colonel MM Roberts congratulated the officers on their “magnificent” arrest, also extending gratitude to the local CPF for their assistance in the incident.
Roberts also emphasised the importance of the community working with the police to bring criminals to justice and to safeguard the community.

In neighbouring Pretoria North, a lookout alert was issued for a vehicle believed to be linked to business robberies in the precinct.
Spokesperson Sergeant Tsakani Miyen said the vehicle was a silver-grey Volkswagen Polo with registration plate FH 19 NH GP.

“The vehicle also has a black star mark on the driver’s side,” she said.
Miyen said the vehicle was “terrorising” the Pretoria North and Hercules neighbourhoods.
“The vehicle has been linked to several business robberies,” she said.
Members of the public were urged to contact the Pretoria North police on 012 353 5666/8 if they spotted the vehicle.
An increase in business robberies had also been recorded in this precinct since earlier this year.
The latest target, Miyen said, was electronics stores.
