Rietgat police nab 45 suspects over weekend

Rietgat police arrested 45 suspects for various crimes over the weekend.

Rietgat police spokesperson Stephen Maluleka said these suspects were nabbed through thorough and meticulous intelligence-driven operations and swift responses to combating crime within the community.

The suspects were charged with a range of offences including

possession of a stolen motor vehicle; malicious damage to property; illegal selling of alcohol; murder; possession of stolen property; rape; common assault; assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; dealing in drugs; possession of presumed stolen motor vehicle; intimidation; common robbery; burglary at business premises; contravention of a protection order; carjacking; theft; attempted murder; possession of drugs and business robbery among others.

Maluleka said the station also want to urge the community to respect the curfew and leave early from places of entertainment to avoid being on the wrong side of the law.

He said the relaxation of lockdown levels to adjusted level 1 does not give community members a right to disregard the law.

Rietgat station commander Brigadier Molatelo Maphoto said the community should continue working closely with the police in reporting all criminal activities.

“Your efforts will never go unnoticed and we appreciate your efforts. Do not get tired of doing the right thing, the SAPS is grateful for your efforts,” said Brigadier Maphoto.

Maluleka said all arrested suspects will soon appear in the Soshanguve magistrate’s court.

He said the station was currently experiencing problems with its telephone lines.
